as far as this forecast for election day, most of the country is rain free and clear. a little weak system in northern minnesota, wisconsin. shouldn't cause any issues. this system that's going to be dipping down into the gulf will be developing tuesday and spreading rainfall into the areas of georgia, south carolina, and areas of north carolina. maybe virginia very, very late in the day as the polls are closing. really, it's just rain. it's going to be pretty mild. hopefully it won't impact the turnout too much. now let me take you into the part of it i'm a little more concerned with. that is, of course, the impact of where sandy hit. the storm will be a mini nor'easter. not a full-fledged one like we normally get. these are my concerns. battering waves. again, there's no dunes left on the beaches. a lot of the water has been -- you know, the whole coastline has been reconstructed. any loose limbs on trees that haven't fallen yet, there are going to be wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour and the progress would be delayed as far as getting power back on. probably one day

can you have an election about trustworthiness and integrity? it's no longer an ideological argument. >> i think it's an experiment. i don't think we know the answer. we will on election day, but because what mitt romney is attempting to pull off is something i don't think we have really seen before in modern politics. this is a move to the middle on the cheap. it's coming late in the campaign. it's rhetorical in nature. for comparison, think back to 2000. the republicans made a calllation after eight years of clinton that they were too far in the right, and needed to be in the middle and needed a compassionate conservatism. but bush spent 1999 developing a real program. later call ed it big government skeftism. he had a real plan for a greater federal role in education. he had a real plan there on prescription drugs. they developed a vision. so there was real substance there. mitt romney was far to the right in the primary. gave the conservative base everything they wanted. this is one of the most conservative republican platforms we have seen.

essentially, obama won the election before election day. john mccain won the election day vote but obama had already won the election in the early voting period. we have already had 1 million people voted north carolina. -- voters in north carolina. at this point, the democrats are doing better on the early voting, it appears. we don't have a vote count so we don't know exactly what the tally is. if you look at things -- we know things like number of active americans who have voted and that is up from the percentage who voted in 2008. percentage is greater this time at this juncture that was in 2008. the number of younger voters who tend to be more for obama than for running a, a greater percentage is up this time compared to 2008. those are all good signs for the obama campaign. but, what that will mean at the end, we don't know but the obama campaign had a good signal from that. host: we have a chart from an article in the "atlantic." it talks about absentee ballot request in north carolina. host: the democrats made a gain of about 9000.
